So you're going to start therapy...
If you've never been to therapy before, you probably have a lot of questions.
(Here are some common questions for children. Reach out if there are more!)
What is therapy?
Therapy is a space where you get to go each week to spend time with someone (a therapist) and have someone on your team. The type of therapy that I do is all about choices. You get to lead us with what your body knows is right. This means choosing what to do in the room and how you want to be in the room. We can talk, play or just be (check out my rooms). I may challenge you at times to try new things and we'll always go at your pace.
Do I have to sit?
A lot of people think that therapy is just sitting around and talking. It can be, but it doesn't have to be! I like to move around a lot. We can play, do art, go in the sand tray, jump around. We can do whatever type of moving around your body might need. Sitting is always an option, but it doesn't have to be all we do.
What are you like?
Lots of people describe me as kind, adventurous, and playful. I am curious and like to ask people questions or see what they're up to. I like biking, cooking, and spending time with my friends and family.
Here's a picture of what I look like!
Do my parents come, too?
Yes, for part of the time. Therapy is about being a team. I get to be on your team to support you be the awesome person that you already are. I help your family work as a team, too. You and I get to spend time together each week playing or talking. And, then I meet with your parent to help them be the best team member they can be. What you share with me stays private and sometimes we'll talk together with your parent to help support your family.
